Thanksgiving Charities to Donate To: Giving Meaning to Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is a time when people need help; on this page I discuss homelessness and hunger and some import charities to donate to. One of the downsides of our socio-economic system is that it can leave some behind. Every city has its destitute and homeless, some it was no fault of their own. Thanksgiving is all about being thankful, grateful, and helping others out!
Here are some data on the state of homelessness in the USA. Key facts and data points include:
- Homelessness has been on the rise since 2017, experiencing an overall increase of 6 percent.
- In 2022, counts of individuals (421,392 people) and chronically homeless individuals (127,768) reached record highs in the history of data collection.
- Unsheltered rates are also trending upward, impacting most racial, ethnic, and gender subgroups.
- Homeless services systems continued to expand the availability of both temporary and permanent beds in 2022, but these resources still fall short of reaching everyone in need.
- Homelessness rose by a modest 0.3 percent from 2020 to 2022, a period marked by both pandemic-related economic disruptions and robust investments of federal resources into human services.
The State of Homelessness: 2023 Edition uses data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide an overview of the scope of homelessness in the U.S. on a given night in 2022 and illustrate emerging trends. Data in this report is pulled from HUD’s 2022 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count data, as well as Housing Inventory Count data. Each section features interactive charts to display this data, with highlights discussed in the text of this report.
One way to help others is by donating to food drives. There is a good amount of starving in the streets and people have hungry bellies. There are many canned food drives that go on the time of Thanksgiving, and it is a time to help those in need with something to eat.
Here ar some charities to donate to:
U.S. Hunger Relief Organization | Feeding America
Food Pantries | The Salvation Army USA
About Hunger and Homelessness | Move for Hunger
Thanksgiving Charities to Donate to: Helping at Food Banks
Sadly, there is a great deal of suffering in the world and hunger is one of those major issues. You might say that it is a combination of bad personal decisions, overpopulation, and ineffectiveness of society to deal with issues. But no matter the issue, at least we can exercise some humanity and make sure everyone has something to eat on Thanksgiving (and hopefully Christmas as well).
One of the ways that we can help the starving and hungry in the USA is Thanksgiving food donations. These food donations give people hope that they can get their lives back together, it gives these people some happiness in life, and hopefully it gives them some reflection on personal betterment.
Thanksgiving food drives happen all over the place: public buildings, schools, libraries, businesses – don’t be afraid to help out and donate some food!

A Poem About Homelessness
A soul in the street, with nowhere to go
A heart that still beats, though it’s lost its home
A mind that still thinks, though it’s filled with woe
A life that still exists, though it’s on its own.The rain beats down, with no shelter in sight
The wind howls loud, through the dark and lonely night
The cold grips tight, as the hours slowly pass
The weary eyes fight, to keep the memories of the past.A heart that once laughed, now bears a heavy load
A mind that once dreamed, now finds itself alone
A soul that once sang, now whispers a mournful tune
A life that once had meaning, now just a hopeless roam.No warm embrace, to chase away the chill
No gentle voice, to soothe the aching heart
No loving smile, to bring a brighter day
No hand to hold, to guide them through the dark. But still they rise, with courage and with grace
Still they survive, in this unforgiving place
Still they believe, in a brighter tomorrow
Still they achieve, what they once thought was impossible to follow. So let us not forget, the homeless on our street
Let us offer them love, a warm bed, and a meal to eat
Let us help them rise, and bring back their smile
For every soul in the street, is precious and worth the while.
This poem serves as a reminder that every life is valuable and deserves our attention and care. May it inspire us to be more empathetic and to work towards creating a world where everyone has a place to call home. May we never forget that behind every homeless person is a story, a heart, and a soul worth fighting for.
